Apple is ushering in a new era with its upcoming fall product launch, marking the first major event under the leadership of new CEO John Ternus. The event, scheduled for September 9th local time (September 10th at 1 AM Beijing time) with the theme “Surprise and shine,” will see Tim Cook transition to the role of Executive Chairman of the Board, with Ternus officially taking the helm as CEO on September 1st.

Ternus Era Begins with Fall Launch

This highly anticipated event signifies a pivotal moment for Apple, as it’s the first large-scale product unveiling since John Ternus assumed the CEO position. Ternus, who has been instrumental in leading the iPhone hardware engineering team, is now set to be the public face and primary spokesperson for Apple’s future innovations, including foldable iPhones and other upcoming products.

Cook’s Shifting Role

While Tim Cook will be present at the event venue, sources indicate he will not appear in the pre-recorded presentation segments. This strategic decision, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, is aimed at ensuring a smooth and clear transition, allowing Ternus to establish himself as the central figure for new product introductions. Gurman commented on the situation:

Apple has been meticulously planning this transition, intending for John Ternus to be the core spokesperson for the foldable iPhone and all subsequent new products. Having Cook appear in the presentation segments at this juncture would only dilute this transitional effect.

Therefore, Cook will not be featured in the videos. In terms of product launches, the John Ternus era has now officially begun.

Cook himself expressed confidence in Ternus during his final communication to employees as CEO, stating his peace in handing over the company to Ternus. The internal memo from Ternus also hinted at an “amazing” iPhone 18 Pro / Max launch event, building anticipation for what’s to come under his leadership.

What to Expect

While the specifics of the new products remain under wraps, the focus on Ternus suggests a renewed emphasis on hardware innovation and engineering prowess. Investors and tech enthusiasts alike will be watching closely to see how Ternus navigates his new role and whether Apple can maintain its trajectory of groundbreaking releases under his guidance. The “Surprise and shine” theme leaves room for exciting announcements, potentially including the long-rumored foldable iPhone, updated Apple Watch models, and other anticipated upgrades to the Apple ecosystem.

The transition marks a significant chapter for Apple, moving from the Cook era, known for its service growth and operational excellence, to the Ternus era, which promises to be defined by bold hardware advancements and a fresh leadership perspective.
