Soon it will be possible to replace the speakers in the latest MacBook Pro models without having to replace the entire top case, as has been the case for a long time. This week, Apple stores and authorized service centers received information that the speakers will be available as separate components for 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip family. The source also told the publication that this option will also be available for repairing earlier MacBook Pro models with Apple’s silicon processors.
The change should make repairs less expensive. Until now, the process involved replacing the entire upper case, including the battery and other parts, which was quite expensive. This has been the case since 2016. A repair guide with new steps for replacing speakers is now available online at Apple’s support site. It may not necessarily be an easier repair – the guide shows a fairly complicated process – but not having to replace other parts, such as the battery, just to replace the speakers should cut costs significantly.
