Apple may release a folding iPhone in 2026

Recently, news about Apple’s plans to create a foldable device has not subsided. While major OEMs have intensified their efforts in the foldable device segment, the Cupertino tech giant is taking a cautious approach. Industry insiders have repeatedly pointed to 2026 as the year when Apple’s first foldable laptop will be introduced, while renowned analyst Kuo recently said that a foldable MacBook could be released in 2027. Now, Revegnus has shared new information, citing a senior Apple official, about the company’s plans to create a foldable computer.

According to a senior Apple official quoted by AlphaBiz, the company has confirmed the release of a foldable iPhone in 2026 after careful consideration. This is said to be quite a bit later than the expected release. The official added that it will be thinner and lighter than the competition. This, along with the display’s bend marks, is a major pain point for brands in the challenging segment. Apple aims to overcome this problem.

The insider also claims that Apple may introduce advanced technologies into the complex first-generation iPhone due to the delayed release. This will be important for the company to differentiate its offer from competitors in the market.

A previous report claimed that Apple has been working on its first foldable device for at least five years. Samsung became a pioneer in this segment in 2019 and has come a long way since then. The Cupertino-based tech giant usually takes its time with new launches. The company has yet to make its foray into the GenAI space, which is expected to be introduced later this year.
