Apple introduces MacBook Air M4 with reduced price

Apple has unveiled its latest MacBook Air refresh, finally bringing the M4 chip to its lightweight laptops. While the Air line is getting more powerful, it’s also getting cheaper. The smaller, base M4 MacBook Air will retail for $999, a $100 discount from its previous starting price. Pre-orders start today, and the machines will be available starting March 12.

Last year’s Air models were pretty good, but they didn’t do anything groundbreaking, and the same goes for the 2025 versions. There are still two more size options: 13-inch and 15-inch. The M2 and M3 laptops come with 16GB of RAM by default, and the M4 model fits the bill. Apple is promising up to 18 hours of battery life, and the Airs will feature Apple Intelligence. The line also gets a new look, adding a sky blue color to the already familiar silver, midnight blue, and starlight options.

The company’s current chip has been in the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac for a while now, so the M4’s power levels are pretty well established. But a boost to Apple’s ultralight devices is still welcome. Apple says the new chip can make the latest Airs twice as fast as the M1 versions. The M4 features a 10-core CPU and up to 10-core GPU. It supports up to 32GB of combined memory.

The new prices might be the most interesting part of today’s Air announcements. The 13-inch M4 Air starts at $999, or $899 for Education buyers, while the 15-inch model starts at $1,199, or $1,099 for Education buyers.
