Apple is opposing the UK government’s secret order to give the government access to encrypted iCloud files. The company has filed an appeal with the Investigatory Powers Tribunal, which considers complaints of “unlawful interference” by British intelligence agencies and authorities, the Financial Times reports.
According to the FT, the tribunal “will consider whether the UK’s notice to Apple was lawful and, if not, may order its revocation.” Reportedly, the tribunal may consider the case as early as this month. Apple stopped offering enhanced data protection in the UK in response to the secret order, and now it appears that the company is trying to stop the service entirely. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
