iPad Pro 2024 will support MagSafe wireless charging

Apple is expected to update its iPad Pro in 2024 with several updates. It is reported that the company may introduce OLED screens on the iPad, abandoning the Liquid Retina XDR display.

Now, new information has surfaced online that hints that the upcoming iPad Pro may get MagSafe wireless charging support. Apple is said to have been testing MagSafe compatibility for iPads since 2021, and we may finally see it implemented in the next iPad Pro.

MagSafe for iPad may soon become a reality

The Macrumors resource reported that the iPad Pro may have support for MagSafe wireless charging in the future. The information came from a source that produces magnets for Apple products.

However, implementing MagSafe technology in the iPad could be a challenge for Apple. The company will have to switch from aluminum backs to glass backs to enable wireless charging. Since the iPad has a larger footprint, the huge glass back panel could make it vulnerable to cracking and damage when dropped.

Apple will also have to use stronger magnets to keep the iPad firmly attached to the MagSafe panel. It will be interesting to see how Apple overcomes these obstacles if it decides to implement MagSafe on the iPad.

As a reminder, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple is testing MagSafe for the iPad in 2021. However, the 2022 iPad Pro does not have MagSafe or any other wireless charging features. This makes the upcoming iPad Pro a strong contender to receive this update, as Apple is currently on a wave of upgrading all of its devices, as we saw with the latest iPhone 15 series.

Previous reports suggest that Apple’s next iPad Pro may also finally switch to OLED screens. The latest iPads still use Liquid Retina XDR screens, which are somewhat outdated technology compared to the OLED screens on iPhones.

In addition to the new iPad Pro, Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple may also introduce a 12.9-inch iPad Air during the iPad refresh. However, this new iPad Air may continue to use LCD screens, and Apple may leave OLED panels for the iPad Pro for now. The company is expected to introduce its latest Apple M3 chip along with the iPad Pro.

The upcoming iPad lineup refresh could see the biggest updates to the iPad. Apple may plan these launches in two phases. The base iPad model is expected to be available as early as March 2024, while the iPad Pro could be launched in mid-2024.
