China’s burgeoning digital advertising market continues its impressive growth trajectory, with internet advertising revenue reaching a substantial 956.89 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2026. This marks a significant year-on-year increase of 17.5%, underscoring the accelerating digital transformation within the advertising industry.

Key Growth Drivers

Mobile internet advertising, a dominant force in the digital space, spearheaded this growth. Revenue from mobile internet advertising alone hit 812.5 billion yuan, posting a robust 14% increase compared to the same period last year. This surge highlights the ongoing shift towards mobile-first consumption and advertising strategies.

Industry Performance Overview

Overall, national enterprises and institutions engaged in advertising activities generated a total revenue of 1,600.83 billion yuan during the first three quarters of 2026. This represents a healthy 8.5% rise year-on-year. Traditional media, such as television, also demonstrated resilience, with advertising revenue from these entities reaching 34.57 billion yuan, a 3.3% increase.

Regional Concentration

The advertising industry exhibits a strong regional concentration, with six key provinces and municipalities – Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, and Jiangsu – collectively accounting for 1,297.11 billion yuan in advertising revenue. This figure constitutes a remarkable 81% of the national total, with their share increasing by 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous year, indicating sustained economic activity and advertising investment in these hubs.

Contextualizing Growth

While the 17.5% growth in internet advertising revenue for the first three quarters of 2026 is substantial, it represents a moderation from the exceptional growth seen in the previous year. For the entirety of 2025, the national advertising business revenue surpassed the 2 trillion yuan mark for the first time, reaching 2,050.21 billion yuan, a 32.6% year-on-year increase. Internet advertising revenue in 2025 stood at 1,357.43 billion yuan, growing by 34.6% and capturing 66.2% of the total advertising revenue. The current figures suggest a normalization of growth rates as the market matures, though the underlying trend remains strongly positive.

The data, released by the State Administration for Market Regulation, provides a clear picture of the dynamic and evolving landscape of China’s advertising sector. The continued strong performance of internet advertising, particularly mobile, signals the increasing importance of digital channels for businesses seeking to reach consumers.

Future Outlook

The accelerating digital and intelligent transformation of the advertising industry is expected to continue shaping its future. As businesses increasingly leverage data and technology for more targeted and effective campaigns, the digital advertising sector is poised for further innovation and sustained growth.
