In addition to the electric options, a 2.0T gasoline-powered version has also been declared but is not yet released, suggesting a comprehensive powertrain strategy for the model.

Design and Dimensions

The Star Leap 5X boasts a commanding presence with its dimensions measuring 4865mm in length, 2000mm in width, and 1910mm in height. Its wheelbase stands at 2875mm, providing ample interior space. For those requiring extra utility, the vehicle’s length can extend to 5005mm when an external spare tire is selected, further emphasizing its rugged and adventurous appeal.

Advanced Autonomous Driving: Huawei Kunlun ADS 5 Pro

A significant highlight of the Star Leap 5X is its integration with Huawei’s Kunlun ADS 5 Pro intelligent driving system on the smart driving editions. This system employs an innovative in-cabin solid-state lidar solution. Unlike traditional setups, the lidar unit is discreetly positioned behind the front windshield, eliminating the need for an external, protruding lidar housing on the roof. This design choice contributes to a cleaner aesthetic while maintaining advanced sensing capabilities.

The comprehensive sensor suite comprises 27 individual units: 11 cameras for visual perception, one solid-state lidar for precise depth sensing, three 4D millimeter-wave radars for enhanced object detection and velocity measurement, and 12 ultrasonic sensors for short-range obstacle detection and parking assistance.

Powertrain and Performance

The pure electric variants are equipped with a rear-mounted 227kW electric motor, powered by an 81.9kWh battery. This configuration delivers a CLTC range of 625km. The vehicle is built on an 800V high-voltage platform, enabling exceptionally fast charging. DC fast charging from 30% to 80% can be completed in a mere 14.5 minutes, significantly reducing downtime for owners.

The plug-in hybrid models feature a 1.5T engine paired with an electric motor. The engine produces a maximum power of 105kW. The two-wheel-drive versions utilize a 200kW motor, while the four-wheel-drive variants boast a dual-motor setup with a combined 400kW of power (front 200kW, rear 200kW). This dual-motor configuration offers enhanced performance and traction.

With its blend of striking design, advanced intelligent driving capabilities, and diverse powertrain options, the BAIC Star Leap 5X is poised to make a strong impact in the automotive market upon its official release on November 12th.
