In a significant shift for the storage market, a wide range of mainstream Solid State Drives (SSDs) have seen their prices drop by more than 10% within a single week. This notable price correction is affecting channel quotes across the board, according to a report from “CFM Flash Market” on October 27th.

Major Price Drops Across the Board

The latest channel quotes reveal a widespread decline in SSD prices. Several key capacities have experienced substantial weekly decreases:

  • 120GB SATA SSDs are now priced at $15 (approximately 100.2 RMB), marking an 11.76% drop week-over-week.
  • 240GB SATA SSDs have fallen to $32 (approximately 213.8 RMB), down 11.11% in the past week.
  • 256GB PCIe 3.0 SSDs are seeing the steepest decline, now at $33 (approximately 220.5 RMB), a significant 13.16% decrease.

Even higher-capacity drives are not immune to this downward trend. While the percentage drops are smaller, the absolute price reductions are still noteworthy:

  • 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSDs are available for $65 (approximately 434.3 RMB), a 7.14% weekly reduction.
  • 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSDs have dropped to $120 (approximately 801.7 RMB), down 7.69% from last week.
  • 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSDs are now priced at $240 (approximately 1,603 RMB), showing a 4.00% decrease.

The 256GB PCIe 3.0 variant stands out, experiencing the largest single-week price drop at 13.16% among the affected specifications. This sharp decline suggests a strong push to clear inventory for this particular capacity and interface.

What This Means for Consumers

For everyday consumers looking to build or upgrade their systems, this price rollback offers a welcome relief from the mounting costs of PC components. The price elasticity is particularly evident in the mainstream capacities ranging from 256GB to 1TB, making these popular choices more accessible.

However, it’s important to note that SSD prices had seen considerable cumulative increases prior to this correction. While the current drop is significant, it’s largely a high-level pullback from previous peaks. Whether consumers can expect even more attractive, “real bottom” prices before the upcoming Double 11 (Singles’ Day) shopping festival remains to be seen.

The pace of inventory clearance by manufacturers and the fluctuating prices of upstream NAND flash memory will be key factors to watch in determining the final pricing strategies leading into major sales events.

This recent price adjustment indicates a dynamic market influenced by supply, demand, and strategic inventory management. As the year-end shopping season approaches, consumers will be keen to observe if these downward trends continue, potentially offering compelling deals on essential storage solutions.
