Chinese manufacturer OPPO appears to be working on an innovative foldable smartphone distinguished by exceptionally narrow bezels. Recent leaks from a prominent tech blogger suggest this ambitious new device.
Innovative Design
According to the report, an engineering prototype of OPPO’s foldable model utilizes a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. The standout feature is its LIPO design, incorporating remarkably slim bezels around the screen, estimated to be approximately 1mm on all four sides. This design aims to allow 16:9 video content to fill the screen entirely, promising a more immersive viewing experience.
The screen itself is reportedly around 81mm wide. However, the blogger notes that the final assembled device might be slightly wider, unlikely to exceed 85mm. This indicates OPPO’s commitment to creating a device that is as compact as possible, despite its foldable form factor.
Premium Positioning
The source also emphasizes that this device is slated for OPPO’s flagship product line, inherently suggesting a high price point. As is typical for the brand, OPPO aims to offer customers cutting-edge technology and exclusive design, which will naturally be reflected in its cost.
Market Competition
Interestingly, the same blogger mentioned rival efforts. It appears that another Chinese tech giant, vivo, is also exploring similar developments, though their progress in this area is reportedly slower.
For comparison, the recently unveiled Huawei Pura X View, also a foldable smartphone, features a 6.39-inch panel with a 2232×1320 pixel resolution and a 16:9.5 aspect ratio. Its bezels are also notably slim, measuring 1.05mm on all sides, resulting in an impressive screen-to-body ratio of up to 96.1%. The Huawei device measures 87mm in width.
While details regarding the specific technologies and features of OPPO’s future smartphone remain under wraps, these leaks indicate the company is actively innovating in the foldable device sector. The extremely narrow bezels and standard screen aspect ratio could become key selling points for the new model, potentially setting a new industry benchmark.
