Huawei has updated the API version usage statistics for devices running HarmonyOS, offering developers crucial insights for application compatibility planning. The latest data, available on the Huawei Developer website, shows significant shifts in the distribution of HarmonyOS versions across the device ecosystem.

Key API Version Distribution Revealed

As of October 7, 2026, the data indicates that HarmonyOS version 6.1.1 (API 24) now accounts for 75.02% of devices. Version 6.1.0 (API 23) has seen a notable decrease, falling to 4.11%.

Collectively, devices running API version 6.1.0 (API 23) and above now represent a substantial 98.11% of the HarmonyOS user base. This suggests that older versions below 6.1 (excluding 6.1) constitute a mere 1.89% of active devices.

The update also highlights the complete deprecation of the 5.0.0 version. All associated API levels, including 5.0.0 (API 12) through 5.0.4 (API 16), now show a 0% usage rate. Even the highest version within the 5.X series, 5.1.1 (API 19), holds a minimal 0.07% share.

HarmonyOS 7.0.0 (API 26) Gains Traction

A significant development is the increasing adoption of HarmonyOS 7.0.0 (API 26), which has climbed to 18.98% of the device landscape. This upward trend indicates a strong migration towards the latest stable release of the operating system.

Other older versions continue to show a minor presence:

  • HarmonyOS 6.0.0 (API 22) at 1.27%
  • HarmonyOS 6.0.0 (API 21) at 0.33%
  • HarmonyOS 6.0.0 (API 20) at 0.02%

Similarly, older 5.X versions have negligible shares:

  • HarmonyOS 5.1.0 (API 18) at 0.04%
  • HarmonyOS 5.1.0 (API 17) at 0.16%

Context and Implications for Developers

These statistics are crucial for developers when deciding which API versions their applications need to support. By focusing on the dominant versions, developers can optimize their apps for the vast majority of HarmonyOS users while potentially phasing out support for much older, less common versions.

The data update comes shortly after Huawei announced significant milestones for its operating system. Earlier this month, Richard Yu, Huawei’s Executive Director and Chairman of the Consumer Business Group, revealed that the number of HarmonyOS 6 and HarmonyOS 7 terminals had surpassed 90 million units. This figure underscores the rapid expansion of the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

The ongoing evolution of HarmonyOS, marked by the increasing adoption of newer versions like 7.0.0 and the phasing out of legacy versions, reflects Huawei’s commitment to providing a modern and efficient platform for its users and a clear roadmap for its developer community.
