The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) has announced the passing of Liu Huan, a celebrated musician and retired faculty member. Liu Huan passed away on September 25, 2026, at 9:52 AM in Shanghai due to illness. He was 63 years old.
Born in Tianjin in August 1963, Liu Huan joined UIBE in July 1991. He served as a teacher and associate professor in the art department, dedicating over three decades to music education before retiring in September 2023. Throughout his tenure, he was recognized multiple times for his teaching excellence and was appointed to the third board of directors in 2011.
A Legacy in Music Education and Performance
According to the university’s obituary, Liu Huan was a multifaceted talent, excelling in music education, composition, and singing. His academic background spanned both Eastern and Western musical traditions, and he was respected for his high moral character and dedication to the music industry. His contributions to the development of music education in higher institutions were significant.
The university expressed that his departure represents a major loss not only for UIBE but also for the broader Chinese music community. Liu Huan’s lifelong commitment to music has left an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues.
Fulfilling Personal Wishes
In accordance with Liu Huan’s wishes, funeral arrangements will be kept simple. There will be no memorial committee established, nor will a public wake or memorial service be held.
