Boeing has submitted its final contract proposal to the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) union, aiming to secure a new agreement before the current one expires on October 6th. The latest offer includes a significant immediate pay raise and improved compensation structures for its approximately 17,000 professional and technical members.
Key Contract Highlights
The proposed contract guarantees an immediate 10% salary increase for SPEEA members, contingent on the proposal’s approval. This represents an improvement over Boeing’s previous offer, which was overwhelmingly rejected by union members in an August 21st vote.
Following the initial raise, members are slated to receive another 4% increase in March 2027. Furthermore, the company proposes an annual increase of 6% to the overall compensation pool for the years 2028, 2029, and 2030. Importantly, Boeing guarantees a minimum annual increase of 4% from this pool, with all funds allocated to the pool required to be distributed to SPEEA members each year.
If ratified, the 10% pay hike would be effective for SPEEA members as early as October 16th. The subsequent raises, along with potential performance-based increases, would follow between 2027 and 2030.
“Our final contract offer addresses the top priorities identified by our employees and the SPEEA negotiating team, including immediate wage increases and an expanded wage pool with guarantees,” stated Ben Nimmergut, Boeing Vice President and Chief Engineer for the Production Engineering function.
Addressing Union Concerns
Beyond compensation, the new proposal reportedly includes adjustments to remote work policies and overtime limitations for members of the professional unit. These elements were likely addressed in response to feedback from the previous offer’s rejection.
The current contract is set to expire on October 6th. Should an agreement not be reached by this date, SPEEA members would be in a position to strike, a scenario Boeing is presumably keen to avoid.
The increased offer signifies Boeing’s commitment to reaching an agreement and retaining its skilled engineering workforce. The coming weeks will be critical as SPEEA members review the final proposal and cast their votes, determining the future of their labor relations with the aerospace giant.
