Under the theme “Striving to Promote High-Quality Development of Intellectual Property During the 15th Five-Year Plan Period,” the National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) revealed impressive statistics showcasing the nation’s innovation prowess.
Key Milestones Announced
CNIPA announced that China’s domestic invention patents in force have reached a staggering 5.394 million. Alongside this, the number of effective trademark registrations stands at 50.816 million. Perhaps most notably, China has maintained its position as the global leader in PCT international patent applications for seven consecutive years. Furthermore, the country ranks prominently in Hague System international design applications and Madrid international trademark applications, underscoring its growing influence in global IP landscapes.

These figures build upon previous achievements. As of the end of 2025, China’s domestic invention patents in force were reported at 5.32 million, with high-value invention patents per 10,000 population reaching 16. The number of effective trademark registrations was 49.87 million. In terms of brand value, Chinese brands accounted for $1.81 trillion USD (approximately 12.18 trillion RMB) among the global top 5000 brands, securing the second position worldwide.
Further details from 2024 illustrate a dynamic innovation ecosystem. The nation authorized 1.045 million invention patents, marking a 13.5% year-on-year increase. The examination period for invention patents was compressed to 15.5 months. A total of 75,000 PCT international patent applications were accepted. Chinese applicants submitted 4,868 international design applications through the Hague Agreement, propelling China to the top spot globally in this category.
Meeting and Exceeding Goals
By the end of 2024, China’s high-value invention patents per 10,000 population reached 14, an achievement that fulfills and surpasses the targets set in the country’s 14th Five-Year Plan. In that same year, the number of domestic invention patents in force reached 4.756 million, making China the first country in the world to surpass the 4 million mark in this crucial metric.
