AMD GPUs Run NVIDIA DLSS 5 in Cyberpunk 2077 Mod

In a significant development for cross-vendor graphics technology, a dedicated MOD has successfully enabled NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 (Deep Learning Super Sampling 5) on AMD graphics cards. The breakthrough comes courtesy of developer Daniel Blanco and his tool, ‘DLSS-NR for AMD’, which allows the cutting-edge AI rendering technology to operate on AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture, specifically targeting the upcoming Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs.

Cross-Vendor AI Rendering Achieved

The MOD works by leveraging the FP8 computation capabilities inherent in AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture, a feature also present in NVIDIA’s RTX 40/50 series. DLSS 5, officially unveiled by NVIDIA in March 2026 and launched later that year, is notable for its integration of a real-time neural rendering model. Unlike previous DLSS iterations focused primarily on frame rate boosts, DLSS 5 aims to enhance visual fidelity by using generative AI to “fill in” details, pushing graphics closer to photorealistic, Hollywood-level quality for elements like lighting, textures, and skin rendering.

To implement the MOD, users need to place the installer and NVIDIA’s ‘nvngx_dlssnr.dll’ file into the game’s ‘bin’ folder. The neural rendering feature can then be toggled via FSR 3 (FidelityFX Super Resolution 3) or FSR 4 configuration files.

Early Performance and Limitations

Initial testing, conducted by YouTube channel Ancient Gameplays on a Radeon RX 9070 XT with Cyberpunk 2077, revealed significant performance impacts. In its early stages, enabling the DLSS 5 MOD caused frame rates to plummet from over 80 FPS to a mere 11-12 FPS at 1080p resolution. However, subsequent updates, including Alpha v0.2.7, have shown marked improvement, with performance recovering by approximately 12% and frame rates climbing to around 30 FPS.

The current iteration of the MOD has been tested in Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V: Enhanced Edition. It’s important to note that older AMD GPUs are not supported at this time. Furthermore, a significant limitation is that anti-cheat systems will prevent the DLL from loading. Consequently, the MOD’s current application is restricted to single-player games that do not employ such protections.

Future Implications

While the performance is still far from optimal, the fact that DLSS 5 can run on AMD hardware at all is a monumental step. It opens the door for potential future collaborations or independent efforts to bring advanced AI-powered rendering features to a wider range of hardware. The success of this MOD highlights the shared underlying architectural support for FP8 computations and could pave the way for more standardized AI graphics features across different GPU manufacturers. As DLSS 5 itself represents a leap towards AI-driven photorealism, its potential accessibility on AMD platforms, even in a modded state, is a glimpse into the future of gaming visuals.
