Rakuten Viber asked Ukrainians whether they have encountered cyber fraud in the past year. The team also found out whether the respondents had become more aware of cybersecurity. More than 35 thousand users took part in the survey on the official Rakuten Viber Ukraine channel.
Almost everyone knows about cyber fraud
The survey results showed that 62% of Ukrainians have encountered cyber and phone scams. Another third of users (30%) have heard about such cases from others.
The answers to the question “Have you encountered cyber and phone scams in the last year?” were as follows:
- Yes – 62%;
- No, but I have heard about such cases from others – 30%;
- No, I have not even heard of such cases – 8%.
Better understanding of cybersecurity
Ukrainians also told us whether they have gained a better understanding of cybersecurity over the past year. The Viber team conducted a similar survey in January 2024. 39% of respondents are doing everything they can to learn more about cybersecurity – last year, only 21% of respondents chose this answer. In addition, only 28% of Ukrainians are not interested in cybersecurity (while in January 2024, 50% of respondents were not interested in cybersecurity).
Answers to the question “In your opinion, have you become more knowledgeable about cybersecurity over the past year?” were distributed as follows:
- Rather yes, I am doing everything for this – 39% (21% in 2024);
- I am not interested in this issue – 28% (50% in 2024);
- Rather no, I have not read anything on purpose – 21% (17% in 2024);
- I used to be very good at it – 7% (6% in 2024);
- I have improved a lot in this topic, now I can give lectures – 5% (6% in 2024).
Research methodology: anonymous online survey, n>36,000. The key age group is 34-45 years old, with more than 50% of respondents under the age of 45.
