YouTube Premium adds 256kbps audio

YouTube is introducing new features for paid users, starting with the ability to enable more than one experiment. If you have a premium subscription, you can test the video service’s experimental features by going to youtube.com/new. Previously, you could only try one experiment at a time, but now you can activate multiple options to try several at once. YouTube has even added new features that you can test now that you can activate more than one, including the ability to play music videos with audio set to 256 kbps. Previously, you could only listen to 256 kbps audio in YouTube Music.

Another new test feature is Picture-in-Picture for YouTube Shorts on iOS, which lets you watch short videos while you have other apps open. You can also activate the Smart Download feature on iOS if you want YouTube to automatically save recommended shorts to your phone for offline viewing. Another new feature that YouTube is testing is the “Skip ahead” feature for web browsing, which allows you to skip to specific parts of a video. Previously, this feature was only available on YouTube apps. Finally, you’ll soon be able to play videos even faster on mobile devices, thanks to enhanced playback capabilities that increase speeds up to 4x.
