YouTube is testing a two-person YouTube Premium subscription plan, Moneycontrol reports (via Android Authority). The company’s representative Alex McQuiston confirmed to The Verge that the pilot project is taking place in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
“We’re experimenting with new ways to provide more flexibility and value to our YouTube Premium subscribers, including offering a two-person premium plan option that allows two people to share a subscription at a reduced cost,” McQuiston said.
Moneycontrol and Android Authority in their articles provide screenshots of how the two-person plan fits into YouTube’s Indian rupee pricing tiers. While the individual plan starts at Rs. 140.00 per month, the two-person plan costs Rs. 219.00 per month and the family plan costs Rs. 299.00 per month, so the two-person plan is in the middle.
The pilot of the two-person plan follows the widespread rollout of YouTube Premium Lite, which the company also tested in a limited number of countries. The Premium Lite plan allows you to watch most videos without ads, but does not have ad-free music videos, offline downloads, or background playback.
