Chinese EV maker XPeng has announced a significant milestone in its European expansion, achieving cumulative sales of over 10,000 units across four key markets: Denmark, Norway, France, and Germany. This achievement coincides with several of XPeng’s models, including the G6 and G9, repeatedly securing the top sales position within their respective segments in these countries.
European Expansion Accelerates
The company’s foray into the European market began with Norway, and its international presence has since grown to encompass dozens of countries and regions. XPeng’s global cumulative deliveries have surpassed 100,000 units, with the European market contributing approximately 60% of this total. The second quarter of 2026 marked a significant quarter for international sales, with figures exceeding 20,000 units for the first time, an impressive 81% year-on-year increase.
XPeng Chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, has previously outlined ambitious goals for the company’s global presence. He stated at the XPeng G9L’s global launch at the Paris Motor Show that XPeng aims to be the number one Chinese EV startup brand in France by the first half of 2026. Looking further ahead, the company targets a global annual sales volume of 1 million vehicles by the end of 2030, with Europe expected to account for half of these sales.
Model Success in Key Markets
XPeng’s specific models have shown strong performance in various European markets:
- The XPeng G6 was named the best-selling Chinese pure electric model in Denmark for 2026 and ranked first among Chinese startup pure electric mid-size SUVs in France and Germany during the third quarter of 2026.
- The XPeng G9 secured the top spot for Chinese startup pure electric large and mid-size SUVs in Norway for 2026.
Manufacturing and R&D Footprint
A key development in XPeng’s European strategy is the local production of its vehicles. The first European-made XPeng G9L successfully completed its trial production on October 7th at the Magna Austria plant. This facility, known globally as the sole production base for the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, now manufactures the G9L as the fourth XPeng model to roll off its lines. Complementing its manufacturing efforts, XPeng has established an R&D center in Munich, Germany, focusing on regulatory certification, chassis tuning, and localized intelligent driving testing.
Technological Advancements and Global Collaboration
The XPeng G9L, which launched globally at the Paris Motor Show on October 12th, starts at €74,990 in France. It is also available for order in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Austria. This large SUV, exceeding 5.1 meters in length with a 3.1-meter wheelbase, offers 6- and 7-seat configurations. It features an 800V high-voltage platform and 5C supercharging technology, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 11.7 minutes, with a WLTP range of up to 591 kilometers for the pure electric version.
Beyond product development and sales, XPeng is actively engaged in shaping global automotive regulations. The company has been elected as the Secretariat for the newly established “Automatic Driving Scenario Related Information Exchange Working Group” (TF-ESRI) under the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) GRVA / WP.29 framework. This marks the first time a Chinese company holds such a key secretarial role within the core framework of UN autonomous driving regulations. The working group, co-chaired by France and China, involves global regulatory bodies, certification authorities, technical experts, and industry representatives to foster discussions on autonomous driving in diverse market conditions, safety, and real-world operational experiences.
XPeng’s commitment to intelligent driving extends globally. In July 2026, He Xiaopeng completed localized acceptance testing of XPeng’s Turing AI intelligent driving system in Germany. This system, powered by the second-generation VLA large model, is the first in China to unify its intelligent driving model across both Chinese and European markets. Demonstrating its capabilities, a Xinhua News Agency reporter tested XPeng’s NGP against Tesla’s FSD in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in September 2026.
Future Outlook
XPeng’s strategic global push includes the recent introduction of its first globally targeted model, the MONA L03, at its European debut event in Munich. Even before test vehicles were available in European showrooms, the MONA L03 garnered over 12,000 pre-orders. With a network of 8 R&D centers and 6 production bases worldwide, XPeng’s sales network spans 82 countries and regions, featuring over 1,200 stores. The company’s continued focus on innovation, local adaptation, and strategic partnerships positions it for further growth in the competitive global electric vehicle market.
