Xiaomi is gearing up for the launch of its highly anticipated Xiaomi 18 Pro series on September 23rd at 7:00 PM. Ahead of the official reveal, Lu Weibing, Xiaomi’s Partner, President, Head of Mobile, and General Manager of the Xiaomi Brand, has shared exciting details about what promises to be the most significant upgrade in the history of Xiaomi’s digital flagship series.
A Major Leap in Four Key Areas
Lu Weibing emphasized that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series represents the largest upgrade ever for the digital flagship line. The enhancements span across four core experience areas: performance, the rear display, the main screen, and the camera system.
Performance Overhaul with New Snapdragon Platforms
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is set to deliver a massive performance boost. For the first time, the series will feature two brand-new Qualcomm flagship platforms, both manufactured using the latest 2nm process technology. These new chips boast redesigned CPU, GPU, and NPU architectures, promising not only superior raw power but also significant improvements in gaming energy efficiency.
Leica Optics and AI Imaging Take Center Stage
Photography enthusiasts have much to look forward to, especially with the upcoming Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays. The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is being positioned as a new generation Leica travel photography tool. It features a Leica full-focal-length optical triple camera system, with both the main camera and telephoto lens boasting 200-megapixel sensors. The periscope telephoto lens, in particular, has seen a substantial upgrade, with the Xiaomi 18 Pro achieving nearly three times more light intake, promising exceptional low-light performance.
Building on last year’s exploration of large model imaging with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, the new series introduces “Legendary Moment.” This feature utilizes an end-to-end imaging large model to faithfully reproduce the optical texture, tonal characteristics, and natural bokeh of classic cameras. Combined with advanced optical hardware and sophisticated algorithms, “Legendary Moment” aims to deliver a truly authentic, “optical” feel to AI-enhanced photography.
The Rear Display Gets an AI-Powered Makeover
The rear display has evolved from a novelty to a highly valued feature over the past year, with users employing it for everything from digital pet care and selfie previews to personalized “pain phones.” Recognizing the immense user creativity and demand for more functionality, Xiaomi is introducing “AI Chameleon Back Display.” This AI-driven revamp offers richer personalization options, such as generating dynamic images of pets. More practically, it comes pre-loaded with 100 essential app cards for everyday tasks like cooking timers, hydration reminders, and vocabulary practice, all accessible directly from the back screen.
For those seeking even more customization, Xiaomi is opening a back display app store. Users will be able to request specific app cards, which AI will then generate, fostering a more vibrant and diverse back display ecosystem.
A Brighter, Sharper, and More Immersive Screen
The main display on the Xiaomi 18 Pro series also receives a significant upgrade. All models will feature “Super-pixel 2.0” technology, a new M11 luminous system, and new domestic green luminous materials. This results in an impressive peak brightness of 4000 nits and full RGB lossless arrangement, delivering clearer and more refined flagship-level image quality.
Furthermore, new screen packaging technology involving vacuum adsorption and advanced circuit design has drastically reduced the screen bezels. The black borders are now as narrow as 0.99mm, a 16% reduction compared to the previous generation, offering a more immersive visual experience.
Beyond the Big Four: Comprehensive Upgrades
The enhancements don’t stop at performance, cameras, or screens. The Xiaomi 18 Pro series boasts a series of comprehensive upgrades throughout the device. This includes the adoption of a larger haptic motor across all models, support for IP66, IP68, and IP69 water and dust resistance ratings, and UWB car key functionality. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will also feature triple stereo speakers complemented by anti-phase sound wave cancellation technology for enhanced call privacy.
Powered by the New HyperOS 4
Underpinning these hardware advancements is Xiaomi’s latest operating system, HyperOS 4. This new OS integrates the latest AI experiences, including “Super Xiao Ai 2.0,” powered by Xiaomi’s self-developed MiMo AI model, promising a smarter and more intuitive user interaction.
With these extensive upgrades, the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is poised to set a new benchmark for flagship smartphones, offering a compelling blend of cutting-edge technology and enhanced user experience.
