Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu is reportedly testing a new feature called ‘Daily Moments’ (发日常). According to Sina Technology, this new function is designed to operate similarly to WeChat’s ‘Moments’ (朋友圈), allowing users to share content with a ‘visible for three days’ option.
Introducing ‘Daily Moments’
The ‘Daily Moments’ feature, currently in internal testing, is being rolled out to a select group of users. These users will notice two distinct options on the posting page: ‘Post Note’ (发笔记) and ‘Post Daily Moment’ (发日常). Content shared using ‘Post Daily Moment’ will automatically be hidden from the user’s main profile after three days, mimicking the ephemeral nature of many social media stories. This content will also be displayed separately from regular ‘notes’ (笔记) on a user’s profile page.
Enhanced Privacy and Organization
Beyond the ‘three-day visibility’ setting, ‘Daily Moments’ offers additional privacy controls. Users can choose to make their daily moments visible only to their followers (‘仅粉丝可见’) or to specific custom groups (‘自定义分组’). This granular control allows users to tailor their audience for different types of casual updates.
A key distinction of this feature is its ability to be converted into a regular ‘note’ at any time. This offers flexibility, allowing users to decide later if a casual update is worth preserving as a more permanent piece of content on their profile. However, it’s important to note that this functionality currently applies only to newly posted ‘daily moments’. Existing ‘notes’ cannot be retroactively set to the ‘three-day visibility’ option in bulk.
Xiaohongshu’s Growing User Base
This development comes as Xiaohongshu continues to expand its user base. Publicly available data indicates that as of May 2026, the platform had surpassed 170 million daily active users, with its monthly active users exceeding 400 million. The introduction of ‘Daily Moments’ appears to be a strategic move to cater to users seeking more casual, ephemeral forms of sharing, potentially increasing engagement and providing a distinct alternative to its core note-sharing functionality.
