X rolls out support for 4K video uploads

X is now allowing individual creators to upload videos in 4K resolution as it seeks to increase user engagement and keep users from going to YouTube or Vimeo to watch videos. The feature will soon be available to all premium subscribers, according to a post on X’s tech account.

Until now, paid subscribers have been able to upload 1080p videos up to 8GB in size and about three hours long, according to the X support page. But with support for 4K video uploads, the platform may change the size limit for subscribers.

X has been trying to encourage users to post more video content since Elon Musk bought the company by gradually increasing the upload limit for subscribers.

Earlier this year, the platform also launched a dedicated feed for vertical videos, featuring a shortcut on the home page of its mobile apps, in an effort to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s ban in the US.
