Vodafone Ukraine has demonstrated business stability and positive dynamics of key operating and financial indicators in the first 9 months of 2024. According to the results of three quarters, Vodafone’s revenue exceeded UAH 18 billion.
OIBDA in this period exceeded UAH 9.5 billion, with an OIBDA margin of 52.9%. Vodafone’s net profit amounted to UAH 2.9 billion. The decrease of 23% compared to the same period last year is due to currency fluctuations. Average revenue per user (ARPU) in Q3 2024 amounted to UAH 122.4 per month.
The main growth factors were an increase in the use of mobile services and an increase in the number of fixed-line customers to 270 thousand, which is 16% higher than in Q3 last year.
Reinvestment in infrastructure
Vodafone continues to reinvest its profits in telecommunications infrastructure. Vodafone maintains a high rate of investment – Vodafone’s investments in the country’s infrastructure amounted to UAH 3.4 billion in the first 9 months of 2024. In total, Vodafone invested UAH 12.66 billion in Ukraine during the full-scale war. Priority areas include network restoration and maintenance, energy resilience of mobile communication facilities and expansion of mobile network capacity.
Even in times of war, the company’s telecommunications specialists are doing everything possible to ensure that Vodafone customers have constant communication and can enjoy the benefits of fast and high-quality mobile Internet. As a result, Vodafone mobile Internet has been recognized as the fastest in Ukraine for the second half of the year in a row by Speedtest and received the prestigious Ookla’s Speedtest Awards.
GPON network
Another area for investment is the construction of fixed-line Internet access networks based on modern GPON technology. To date, the company has connected more than 8 thousand apartment buildings in 16 cities of Ukraine to the energy-efficient Internet network. Over the past three years, Vodafone has invested UAH 670 million in the development of its fixed network.
During this time, the company has increased its GPON network coverage 10 times. The operator is actively building new zones in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Ivano-Frankivsk. In August this year, the construction of an energy-efficient network started in Poltava, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Lutsk, Rivne and Ternopil.
Services based on the IoT network
Vodafone continues to develop services based on its IoT network. In August this year, Vodafone and Kyivteplocomunenergo signed an agreement to install NB-IoT-enabled meters in Kyiv. NB-IoT technology ensures reliable communication even in hard-to-reach places, such as basements or underground parking lots.
The network, designed specifically for the Internet of Things, supports a large number of simultaneously connected devices, making it ideal for mass deployment in urban areas and large industrial facilities.
Roaming like at home and subscribers
In August 2024, Vodafone launched tariffs that are also valid in Europe. As part of the Roaming at Home concept, the operator offers Ukrainians to use their home tariff in 28 European countries without additional charges or service activation. This opportunity is especially important today for volunteers and military personnel traveling abroad for training. The service also remains in demand among tourists and business travelers in Europe.
The base remained stable quarter-on-quarter at 15.9 million customers. Vodafone managed to increase the number of mobile customers compared to Q3 last year, with 4.7% more Vodafone customers as of September 30, 2024 than in Q3 last year. Vodafone managed to increase the number of both private subscribers and customers in the corporate segment. In September, Vodafone started selling numbers with a new code – 075. The additional numbering resource significantly increases the choice of the desired combination of numbers for new and existing subscribers.
