Threads is introducing its version of Bluesky’s Starter Packs concept. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri’s post about the update explains that collections of recommended profiles will be offered when users start following topics, as well as as part of the “For You” feed.
Interestingly, Threads doesn’t seem to have a name for this feature. But this isn’t the first time Threads has adopted an idea that originated on rival platform Bluesky. Custom feeds were the latest concept to make its way from Bluesky through a short testing phase to an official release on the Meta-owned social network.
Bluesky is aware of how many of their features have started to appear on Threads. Last month, when Meta first announced that it would have its own take on Starter Packs, the company posted on its own Threads account attacking its competitor. The two platforms are competing to attract former users of X (once known as Twitter) who were dissatisfied. In November, the number of Bluesky users reached 20 million, while Threads reported 35 million registrations in that month alone.
