The U.S. has delivered backup generators for Ukrainian NPPs

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Grenholm announced the provision of three generators to provide backup power to Ukrainian reactors in the event of emergency power outages:

“The U.S. Department of Energy is making another contribution to the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants by providing three diesel generators to Energoatom in response to Russian aggression.”

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko thanked the United States for supporting our country and the U.S. Department of Energy itself for its assistance in countering Russian energy terrorism:

“With the help of our partners, we are preparing for the winter, which will be difficult. Therefore, this support is very important for all Ukrainians who will be waiting for electricity in their homes.”

Petro Kotin, President of Energoatom, noted that three 2.2 MW diesel generators, which will be delivered to Ukrainian nuclear power plants in August, are very important now:

“This equipment will be essential for our NPPs in the event of a power outage.”

The backup generators can also be used at Zaporizhzhia NPP after its de-occupation.
