Metinvest Group has handed over a mobile data center to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It allows you to store a huge amount of data, implement complex modern IT projects and implement modular accounting systems. But the main thing is that, if necessary, such a server room can be simply moved to a new secure location and deployed there without losing data. The market value of the data center is UAH 15 million.
Such solutions are used by all the world’s leading armies in hot spots to adjust and coordinate data exchange.
The mobile data center can accommodate 11 switch cabinets: it contains an uninterruptible power supply and cooling system for equipment, as well as a mobile data center automatic fire extinguishing system. The key advantage of the containerized solution is the minimum speed of deployment of the required IT infrastructure: it takes a year to build such a server room and a whole range of construction and installation work.
“The military approached us and said they could use such equipment, so we handed it over. This data center allows us to process large amounts of information and communications, and to ensure the cohesion of units. All the world’s leading armies use them in hot spots to adjust and coordinate data exchange,” said Oleksandr Vodoviz, Head of the Project Office of Metinvest Group CEO.
Equipment of the mobile data center
The data center is equipped with the most advanced systems from world leaders. It has
- a set of fault-tolerant productive server equipment based on the Cisco UCS solution,
- Dell EMC VNX data storage system,
- a set of Cisco networking equipment for connecting the data center to external communication channels.
The modern containerized data center allowed Metinvest Group to fulfill all the tasks of centralizing its infrastructure services and ensuring uninterrupted provision of applied IT services to the Group’s users. Later, as part of the Cloud First strategy, Metinvest Digital’s team migrated all key services to the Microsoft Azure cloud. Andriy Kalniy, Director of Metinvest Digital’s IT Infrastructure Expertise Center, said:

Digitalization of the army
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have never had such a center before. It is very much needed by military units and will allow them to increase their capabilities and build a communication system that will work reliably and reliably.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Metinvest has already allocated UAH 2 billion to support the army as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front military initiative.
