Get ready for a major tech showdown! This coming Monday, September 7th, will see two of China’s biggest tech players, Xiaomi and Huawei, holding their flagship product launch events. However, the timing is far from coincidental, with reports suggesting Huawei might be strategically moving up its highly anticipated Mate 90 series launch to avoid a direct clash.

Xiaomi’s Autumn Lineup Revealed

Xiaomi has officially announced its autumn flagship new product launch event will take place on September 7th at 7 PM. The company is expected to unveil a suite of new devices, including the Pengcheng N70 Pro, N70 Max, and N90 Max chipsets. Additionally, consumers can look forward to the new Xiaomi 18 Fold foldable flagship smartphone and the Xiaomi Tablet 9 Pro Max.

Huawei’s Competing Schedule and Rumored Mate 90 Advance

Adding to the excitement, Huawei has also scheduled its own press conference for September 7th. This event will focus on HarmonyOS 7 and the HUAWEI Mate XT 2, alongside other new all-scenario products. However, Huawei’s event is set to kick off earlier in the day, at 2:30 PM.

Speculation is mounting that Huawei may be planning to bring forward the launch of its flagship Mate 90 series. A prominent tech blogger, @数码闲聊站, hinted that while the first foldable product launch of the month might be impacted by the scheduling conflict, the second major annual flagship launch might not necessarily clash. This suggests Huawei is considering an earlier release for the Mate 90 series.

The Return of Kirin and “Tao (τ) Law”

Previous reports from IT Home indicated that the Huawei Mate 90 series would feature a new Kirin chip based on the innovative “Tao (τ) Law.” This new generation of phones is rumored to be a significant turning point for Huawei, with a strong emphasis on advancements in chip technology and camera capabilities, alongside expected battery upgrades.

The “Tao (τ) Law” was first introduced by Huawei Director and President of Semiconductor Business, He Tingbo, at the 2026 International Conference on Circuits and Systems on May 25th. This marks the first time China has proposed a new principle guiding industrial development in the global semiconductor field. He Tingbo described it as a new evolutionary path for semiconductors.

According to He Tingbo’s presentation, the Kirin mobile chip set to debut this autumn (though its official name is not yet public) will be the first to incorporate “Logic Folding” technology. This advanced technique is expected to lead to substantial performance improvements. Specifically, the upcoming Kirin 2026 chip (using a placeholder name) is said to achieve a 53.5% increase in transistor density compared to traditional 2D designed chips, reaching 238 MTr/mm². Furthermore, it’s reported to offer a 41% boost in P-core energy efficiency and a 12.7% increase in peak frequency.

This potential early launch and the integration of cutting-edge technology like “Logic Folding” and the “Tao (τ) Law” signal Huawei’s strong commitment to regaining its footing in the competitive smartphone market, particularly with its in-house chip development.

As September 7th approaches, tech enthusiasts will be keenly watching to see how these two industry giants navigate their overlapping launch schedules and what groundbreaking innovations they will unveil.
