Substack launches live broadcasts with sound only

If you’re a Substack publisher who prefers not to turn on the camera during a live stream, you’re in luck.

On Tuesday, Substack announced that it is launching an audio-only broadcast feature for publishers who want to be able to communicate with their followers without any unnecessary pressure. This is also ideal for those who want to remain anonymous.

To use this feature, publishers need to click on the camera icon to mute the video during the broadcast. They can turn the video back on at any time during the broadcast. It is worth noting that listeners can still comment and subscribe as they would in a regular live broadcast.

This new feature will go live next week.

The new audio-only mode comes after Substack opened up live streaming to all publishers in January, which was previously only available to select authors with more than 100 paid subscribers.
