Sony to test cloud streaming for PS5 portal

Sony has announced that it will launch cloud streaming beta testing on its PlayStation Portal handheld console. The feature will start rolling out in an update today and will be available in Europe on Wednesday. Only PlayStation Plus Premium members will have access to cloud streaming during the beta, but it’s a promising sign that Sony is finally working on this feature, even though it’s taken a full year to get around to it. The addition of cloud gaming to the portal addresses one of the main criticisms that it seemed to have no obvious target audience.

More than 120 games from the PS5 Plus catalog will be available in the beta test. Among them are Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Games from PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 will not be supported during the beta, but they may join the list when the feature becomes more widely available.

Portal owners may also want to know that this update adds several settings to control sound and volume. But let’s be honest, cloud gaming is really what it’s all about.
