Samsung quietly launches its latest affordable phone with Key Island design, Helio G85

Samsung has quietly unveiled its latest budget phone, the Galaxy A06, in Vietnam. After a series of leaks, the official presentation confirmed what many suspected: The A06 offers minimal improvements over its predecessor, the Galaxy A05. Let’s dive into the details.

Specifications of Samsung Galaxy A06

The most notable changes to the Galaxy A06 are in terms of display and design. Although it retains the 6.7-inch display like its predecessor, the refresh rate has been increased to 90Hz, which is a subtle but significant improvement over the A05’s 60Hz panel.

In terms of design, the phone has the “Key Island” aesthetic that we’ve seen on previous Galaxy A series phones. The Key Island is a protrusion on the right bezel of the phone where you’ll find both the volume rocker and the fingerprint sensor.

Inside, the A06 uses the MediaTek Helio G85 chip from the A05. It offers 64GB or 128GB storage options paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM. The camera system remains the same, with a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a secondary sensor.

The company claims that the phone comes with the latest version of Android, which should be Android 14. However, there is no mention of any artificial intelligence feature, in case you’re wondering. Security is handled by a fingerprint scanner mounted on the side. All this is powered by a 5000 mAh battery that supports 25W charging.

Price and availability

The Galaxy A06 has launched in Vietnam at VND3,190,000 (approximately $127) for the 4GB+64GB version, and VND3,790,000 (approximately $151) for the 6GB+128GB model.

Sales will begin next week, and customers who place an order between August 22 and September 30 will receive a free 25W wall charger. This offer is especially handy since Samsung doesn’t include a charger in the box. There is currently no information on the availability of the A06 in other markets.
