Reddit experienced an “international outage,” NetBlocks, a global internet monitor, reported in a post Thursday evening, although the outage appears to have been resolved. In that post, the organization said the incident was “not related to country-level internet outages or filtering.”
There was also a big spike in reports of Downdetector outages, with a peak of about 56,000 reports at 19:27 EST, but the number of reports seems to have dropped significantly. On Thursday night, I saw a lot of messages on X, Threads, and Bluesky indicating that Reddit was down for them as well.
That said, I didn’t encounter any problems with Reddit myself, so I can’t describe my own experience of what might have happened. The platform worked fine when I viewed it from my account using an older version of Reddit, in an incognito window, and in a mobile browser on my iPhone.
Reddit’s status page also states that all systems are “up and running” and no incidents were reported on Thursday, so it’s unclear how severe the problems could have been. Reddit did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
