OPPO Watch X is a flagship smartwatch by the Chinese manufacturer OPPO that was recently announced. Currently, the novelty is already available for sale, so it’s time to get acquainted with its features and capabilities. How good is the offer and is it worthy of attention? Let’s find out.

OPPO Watch X: the box and delivery set

The user will receive the product in a strictly designed cardboard box. The latter is of a modular type – the large box itself + a lid of a similar design.

As for the design, I personally liked it – it can be done without too much pomp, but with taste.

Inside the box on a special polystyrene seal is the watch itself – the OPPO Watch X model. To the right and left of this pedestal are small boxes with a charging unit, which was supplemented with a removable USB Type-C cable, as well as a comprehensive user manual.

Frankly speaking, a watch that is positioned by the manufacturer as a flagship model at least deserves additional accessories in the package, for example, a wipe for wiping the screen, an additional strap, even if it is in a similar style… However, the manufacturer decided otherwise, limiting the package to the above “things”.

Design, materials and build quality

As for the design, everything is really cool here – the model looks like a million dollars (a favorite comparison in Hollywood movies) and you won’t be able to “catch on” to anything to reduce this amount. The watch is heavy, massive, somewhat austere, and in many ways statusy and sophisticated. In short, it looks like a piece of jewelry that Ambani’s youngest son, whose wedding was covered by almost all the world’s media for several weeks, would not be ashamed to wear. At least if he decides to go to the gym.

The all-stainless steel case took a long time to polish. But the result was worth it – it turned out to be mega-cool, and when you feel the model on your wrist, you will agree with my impressions.

OPPO Watch X design

The display is covered by a powerful sapphire crystal, which I personally have only seen on Vertu phones (it’s a pity that their popularity is over). But on the Watch X, our sapphire is 2.5D convex. In terms of durability, the manufacturer talks about the following parameters: Mohs hardness scale – 8+, 50% increased puncture resistance and 400% increased impact resistance. You must admit that this is worthy of attention.

But the issue of durability does not end there, because in addition to the really good glass in this regard, the case is also protected according to the American military standard MIL-STD-810H, as well as 5ATM (deep water immersion) and IP68 standards. Thus, we have one of the most protected smartwatches, at least among those officially available in Ukraine.

Strap: key features

Fluororubber. This is the material used to make the strap. The following is worth noting. The manufacturer notes that all the straps “have passed strict safety tests”. Well, to a certain extent, this is in addition to the high status of the watch itself.

Another equally important advantage of the strap is its versatility. The inscription on the back reads 22 mm, which is one of the most popular and versatile formats at the same time. In short, if you want to experiment with third-party straps, you will definitely not have any problems with the choice. The only thing is that you should pay attention to the shape just above the mount; it gives the impression of an additional “shell”, thanks to which the strap follows the curves of the hand more perfectly. In addition, it is this “shell” that makes the overall design look “older” and more massive.

Below, in the photo, I propose to compare the “fit” on the case of the 22mm OPPO strap and the strap of the same size from the Gelius Amazwatch GT3 GP-SW010 smartwatch, which will be reviewed on our resource at the end of the week. It’s easy to see exactly what differences make the OPPO strap look more status.

Ergonomics

As with any other smartwatch, OPPO Watch X has a touchscreen that occupies the entire front panel.

The manufacturer placed two buttons on the side edge on the right. The one in the form of a scroll wheel is multifunctional. It can be used to turn the power on/off, as well as to navigate menus and perform other actions. The other button here is the “Back” key.

Behind is a platform for the charging box. A little to the side is a platform for sensors. There are also several ribbons of various technical information.

Finally, there is a speaker on the side panel on the left.

OPPO Watch X display

OPPO Watch X has a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen. The pixel density is 326ppi, and the resolution is 466×466 pixels.

The refresh rate is up to 60 Hz.

The standard maximum brightness is 600 nits; the high brightness mode is 1000 nits.

Everything has already been said above about the protective sapphire crystal.

Impressions of working with the screen

As for the experience of working with the screen, everything is great. By and large, there was nothing to complain about. The picture is clear and correct, there are no distortions, including with noticeable slopes or a noticeable “extinction” of data in the event of bright sunlight on the panel. In short, everything is cool here, as it should be for flagships.

As for the settings. Personally, I strongly advise you to pay attention to this item, because the corresponding arsenal here is as close as possible to that of a smartphone (for which you should thank the OS). For example, there is an adaptive backlight. It is also possible to customize the dial, backlight timeout, etc. Below are the details in the photo.

Sound. Settings

Everything has already been said above about the speaker placement.

As for the sound quality, it is comparable to the capabilities of the speakers of the OPPO A18 smartphone we reviewed earlier – there is even good detail, which is not typical for watch speakers.

I didn’t see anything unusual for me in the settings – adjusting the sound volume, calling media, selecting audio from among the presets, and so on.

Operating system

Watch X runs on Wear OS, Google’s operating system designed specifically for smartwatches. We will return to the features of this OS in a separate review soon.

Hardware

The heart of the system is the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 Wearable Platform BES2700BP processor. The amount of RAM is 2GB, and the built-in memory is 4GB.

As for the system performance, there are no problems with it – the menu navigation is smooth and fast at the same time, absolutely no, let’s say, “thinking” and similar “things”. I didn’t notice any spontaneous disconnections from the smartphone, “crashes” from applications, etc. In short, stable operation of the software at all levels.

OPPO Watch X

Wireless modules and interfaces

In terms of the arsenal of wireless modules and interfaces, OPPO Watch X also has something to interest even the most demanding user.

So, we have the following features:

  • WiFi 5G/2.4G, 802.11 a/b/g/n,
  • Bluetooth (HFP v1.6, HSP v1.2, A2DP v1.3, AVRCP v1.6 SPP v1.1),
  • NFC (support for contactless payments),
  • GPS – dual-band L1 + L5, Beidou, GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS.

OHealth: loading features

I personally did not like the fact that without installing the OHealth app, you will not get access to the OPPO Watch X functionality even in a very limited format. On the other hand, downloading, installing and then connecting + setting up takes a few minutes, so a compromise in this regard is acceptable.

So, let’s download it, familiarize ourselves with the features, and pair it with the watch. In the process, we choose the hand (right/left) on which the product will be placed. In general, it’s nothing complicated, even if this is your first experience with such a connection.

Features

OHealth is a companion app for smart devices. Once your device is connected, you can set up OHealth to access, process, and respond to messages, SMS, and calls from your phone on your device. OHealth can also record and visualize your workout and health statistics.

Impressions of functionality

Here is a little more detail about the app’s potential.

The menu consists of three large sections: Device, Fitness, and Health.

In the first section, the user can choose a watch face, download apps from the Google Play Market directly to the watch, set up notifications, and more.

“Fitness allows you to record the user’s achievements in running, walking, badminton, and a large number of other disciplines. You can also plan your workouts for the current month, etc.

“Health” is a kind of activity recorder for the day: the number of steps taken, calories burned, and so on. In addition, the user’s profile can be configured from this item.

OPPO Watch X

Expert opinion

In the end, we have an interesting example of a smartwatch positioned as a flagship. A really expensive combination of case parts, an interesting approach to the organization of the strap, one of the best displays I’ve personally seen, and functionality that is not limited to the capabilities out of the box.

OPPO Watch X costs 15999 UAH.
