Today, Oppo confirmed in a teaser that its “next-generation flagship Find smartphones,” likely the Find X7 and X7 Pro, will “support satellite connectivity.” It is not yet clear whether both devices will get this feature or whether it will be exclusive to the Pro model.
Satellite connectivity is becoming a trend in flagship smartphones. Almost all flagship smartphone manufacturers are now interested in including it in their devices, and some, like Apple and Huawei, have already done so.
Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Honor, and Huawei are reportedly in talks with China Telecom on how to implement and popularize the technology of “direct connection of a mobile phone to a satellite.”
This means that more brands besides Huawei in China are likely to start adding satellite communication capabilities to their future devices.
For those unfamiliar, satellite communication allows smartphones to communicate even if you don’t have cellular and WiFi coverage. This is a very important feature for users in remote areas or during emergencies.
