OnePlus has revealed its plans for artificial intelligence for its devices, starting with the introduction of the Plus Key, which will replace the notification slider. The Plus Key, like its predecessor, is a physical button that users can customize to launch the camera, start translating, or record. More importantly, it triggers the new AI Plus Mind feature, which can record and play back information found on the screen. When a user wants to record important information, such as schedules, event details, reservations, or announcements, they can press the Plus key to activate AI Plus Mind and save this data. (Note that this feature can extract information from both images and texts.) Alternatively, you can swipe up on the screen with three fingers.
AI Plus Mind stores relevant content in a special Mind Space, where users can browse through the various information they have saved. Users can then search for the information they need using natural language queries. Both Plus Key and AI Plus Mind are making their debut on OnePlus 13 in Asia. AI Plus Mind will be coming to the rest of the OnePlus 13 series devices via an upcoming software update, while all future OnePlus phones will feature the new physical key. It is noteworthy that the new button and function are similar to Nothing’s Essential Key, which can also store information in the Essential Space app. Nothing was founded by Carl Pei, who is a co-founder of OnePlus.
The company also develops several tools for OnePlus’ artificial intelligence, including AI VoiceScribe, which allows users to “record, summarize, and translate calls and meetings directly in popular messaging, video, and online meeting apps.” AI Translation will combine text, live voice, camera, and screen translation capabilities in a single app, similar to Google Translate. AI Search will allow using natural language queries to search for local files and notes. Meanwhile, AI Best Face 2.0, which will be released this summer, will be able to correct problems such as closed eyes in group photos.
