On March 4, Nothing is launching a new device – the Phone 3a series. This is a year after the London-based company released the Phone 2a, which is a budget version of the Phone 2 model released in 2023. Models with the letter “a” are usually cheaper versions of models without it – for example, Ear a headphones are also cheaper than Ear – but there is no Phone 3 for which the 3a would serve as a budget alternative. Most likely, the Phone 3a is simply named that way because it would be in the same price range as the 2a, which sold for at least $349 at launch.
“For the (a) series, we have a different set of users,” says Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis. “When people buy a smartphone, some are looking for the best features, they want the latest innovations and processors. But there are other users who are equally passionate about technology, but are satisfied with just a great user experience – that’s what the (a) series is for. We really focus on the basic needs of users in terms of camera, screen, processor and of course design.”
