Japanese company Newtech has officially unveiled its latest network-attached storage (NAS) device, the Ness4300. This new four-bay NAS is designed to offer robust data management and storage solutions, differentiating itself with a proprietary hardware RAID controller.

Introducing the Ness4300

The Ness4300 comes equipped with four 3.5-inch SATA drive bays, providing ample space for data storage. A key feature that sets it apart from many competitors in the same class is its inclusion of a 240GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD. This SSD is dedicated to running the Windows Server IoT 2025 for Storage Standard operating system, ensuring a smooth and efficient OS experience.

Proprietary RAID for Enhanced Performance and Security

Unlike many NAS devices that rely on software RAID solutions, the Newtech Ness4300 integrates its own hardware RAID controller, named Condor. This dedicated hardware controller is engineered to enhance data management security while simultaneously reducing the processing load on the system’s CPU. This approach can lead to improved overall performance, especially during intensive data operations.

Hardware Specifications

Under the hood, the Ness4300 is powered by an Intel Pentium Gold G7400 processor, which features 2 cores based on the “Alder Lake” architecture. For users requiring more processing power, an upgrade option to the Xeon E-2436 processor, a 6-core “Raptor Lake” chip, is available. The device also includes DDR5 UDIMM memory slots, allowing for memory expansion. Connectivity options include two 1GbE RJ45 ports and four USB ports. For thermal management, the NAS features an internal 8cm fan.

The inclusion of a dedicated hardware RAID controller like Condor is a significant advantage, potentially offering greater reliability and faster data retrieval compared to software-based RAID. This makes the Ness4300 a compelling option for businesses and power users who prioritize data integrity and performance in their storage solutions.
