Apple was expected to announce the updated iPads this month or in early April. However, the next-generation tablets are now delayed. Earlier this month, the company announced the MacBook Air M3. According to the latest data from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new iPads will appear in May.
New iPads are delayed again
Rumors about new iPads, especially the next-generation Air and Pro models, have been circulating on the Internet for several months. Last year, for the first time, Apple did not announce any models from its tablet portfolio. This was the longest break in the company’s history, as the last iPad Pro and Air were announced in 2022. The latter is already two years old with an outdated M1 chip.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Gurman reports that the iPad Pro with OLED display and iPad Air in two sizes are now expected to go on sale in May this year. The company’s foreign suppliers have accelerated the production of the long-awaited tablets. The analyst adds that the delay in the initial launch dates was due to the finalization of the software and the complexity of screen production.
The iPad Pro with OLED display has four variants codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721. Starting in 2018, they will receive significant updates: a faster M3 chip, MagSafe, a slimmer design, and more. Meanwhile, the sixth generation of iPad Air with 10.9 and 12.9-inch diagonal is expected to be powered by the M2 chip. With the upcoming tablets, Apple aims to boost its declining sales.
