Capcom has unveiled a new promotional video for Monster Hunter Wilds: Phantom Break, a massive expansion to the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. The trailer was showcased during Sony’s State of Play event, as reported by Windows Central. This expansive new content is slated for a 2027 release.
Expanding the Wilds
Phantom Break will continue the main storyline of Monster Hunter Wilds, introducing a brand-new narrative, additional regions to explore, and formidable new monsters to hunt. Players can also expect new Hunter actions and the introduction of the “Master Rank” quest tier, promising a significant challenge for seasoned hunters.
Focus on the Bow
The recent trailer specifically highlighted the Bow, a popular long-range weapon. A key new mechanic showcased is the “Boost Mode” for the gauntlet. When activated, this allows players to perform a backward dodge while simultaneously firing an explosive arrow at their target. This adds a dynamic new layer to the Bow’s offensive and defensive capabilities.
In terms of combos, the gauntlet supports charge-up attacks. Charging the weapon increases damage output and allows for seamless transitions into powerful existing moves like Dragon Piercer, which unleashes a rapid volley of arrows, or Thousand Dragons, which fires a barrage of arrows at close range.
Empowered Gameplay
Each use of the gauntlet’s Boost Mode fills up a “charge gauge.” Once this gauge is completely filled, hunters can enter an empowered state. In this state, the Bow fires arrows at an increased rate, imbued with explosive damage. Furthermore, Hunters gain access to a more potent dodge-jump, enabling them to evade enemy attacks while maintaining offensive pressure.
Echoes of the Past
The trailer also offered a glimpse of equipment derived from hunting the formidable Lao Shan-Lung. This colossal Elder Dragon, first introduced in the original Monster Hunter in 2004, has made appearances in subsequent titles such as Monster Hunter Dos, Monster Hunter Freedom, and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Its inclusion suggests a deep connection to the series’ lore within the expansion.
With its promise of new stories, monsters, mechanics, and a return of iconic creatures, Monster Hunter Wilds: Phantom Break is shaping up to be a major addition for fans of the series, offering expanded horizons in 2027.
