On January 20, 2025, Mikael Bjorknert officially assumes his duties as Chairman of the Management Board of PrivatBank. He plans to focus on developing a customer-centered business model, strengthening digital initiatives, increasing operational efficiency, and ensuring the bank’s sustainable development.
As a reminder, on October 7, 2024, the Supervisory Board of PrivatBank announced the election of Michael Burkner as Chairman of the Management Board of the bank. On January 16, 2025, his candidacy was approved by the National Bank of Ukraine, which technically completed the process of a large-scale international competitive selection.
“It is an honor and a great responsibility for me to lead the largest bank in Ukraine today. As it is one of the pillars of financial stability for depositors and Ukrainian business, I understand how important its further development, customer support and innovation are,” said the Chairman of the Management Board.
Unique expertise
More than 25 years of experience in the financial sector and in leadership positions confirm that Mikael Björknerth is uniquely qualified to lead the largest state-owned bank in Ukraine.
Previously, he served as Head of Banking at Swedbank, where he was responsible for the entire range of banking services, from retail and corporate banking to operations and digital transformation. At Swedbank, Mr. Björknerth successfully implemented strategic planning and digital banking initiatives. He is also an internationally recognized expert in the banking sector.
Prior to joining PrivatBank, he served as Chairman of GetSwish and Bankgirot (Sweden), and as a member of the Board of Nasdaq (Nordic). He was also Head of Global Transactions at SEB Bank (globally and in Sweden).
