Meta has updated the message on the home page of the Quest support site to say that a “software update issue” has caused Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest 3S headsets to lock up. The company writes that while “most” people are now able to use their headsets normally, it is “actively working to resolve the issue for all users.”

The fact that Meta says it is working to resolve the issue “for all users” may be good news for Quest 2 and 3 owners, who have reported that Meta will not fix or replace their headsets because they are out of warranty. Some Reddit users claim that the company has emailed them to confirm that they are receiving out-of-warranty service, and the community manager of Meta’s support forum wrote in an update yesterday that Meta’s customer service “should have new guidelines on how to support users now.”

On December 6, Meta said the software update issues were affecting “some new Quest 3S devices,” but made no mention of Quest 2 or 3 headsets or which software version was involved, either then or in an earlier version of a new support site post reported by UploadVR this week. The company announced on December 9 that it was releasing its latest update, Meta Quest v71, which adds features such as an updated method for connecting a virtual desktop display and end-to-end keyboard support in a virtual environment.
