Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch a new all-electric variant of its C-Class sedan, the C300L. Official application images for the new model have been revealed, showcasing key specifications and design elements.

C300L EV Details Emerge

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China recently published the 412th batch of “Road Motor Vehicle Production Enterprises and Products Announcements,” which included the electric Mercedes-Benz C300L. This filing provides the first official glimpse of the production-ready vehicle.

Dimensions and Design

The C300L EV measures 4977 mm in length, 1876 mm in width, and 1510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3051 mm. These dimensions suggest a spacious interior, characteristic of the long-wheelbase ‘L’ variants often offered in markets like China. The vehicle has an unladen weight of 2315 kg and a gross vehicle weight of 2785 kg. It is designed to carry 5 passengers and has a top speed of 200 km/h.

Further details on the vehicle’s stance include front and rear track widths of 1617 mm and 1611 mm, respectively. The approach and departure angles are rated at 16 and 19 degrees, respectively. The electric sedan will be equipped with 19-inch wheels, featuring tire specifications of 235/50R19 for the front and 255/45R19 for the rear.

Powertrain and Battery

Under the hood, or rather, under the floor, the C300L EV is powered by an EM0037 drive motor, manufactured by Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd. This motor delivers a rated power of 90 kW and a peak power output of 230 kW. Energy for the powertrain comes from a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The individual battery cells are produced by Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) in Fujian, while the battery pack assembly is handled by Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd.

Optional Features and Safety

The application documents also indicate that the C300L EV will offer several optional features to customize the vehicle. These include a front-side camera, different styles of door handles, and various wheel rim designs. An ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) device can also be specified. For safety and data recording, the vehicle will be equipped with an automotive event data recorder (EDR) system. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is supplied by ZF Automotive Technology (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd., specified as model IBC Gen2.

The release of these specifications marks a significant step for Mercedes-Benz’s electrification strategy, particularly in the premium sedan segment. While specific launch dates and market availability details are yet to be confirmed, the C300L EV’s appearance in official filings suggests its introduction is approaching.
