Following the leak of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 results, its rival MediaTek Dimensity 9400 also appeared in Geekbench.

This time, however, it is not a traditional processor test, but the result of an artificial intelligence test that appeared on the benchmarking platform.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 results on Geekbench

The results show that the Dimensity 9400 scored 1501 points in single precision, 1906 points in half precision, and 1793 points in quantitative tasks. As the Geekbench AI test is a new tool, we don’t have enough data to compare these results with those of competitors such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

What is notable is that the test confirms the octa-core configuration of the Dimensity 9400 processor. The configuration consists of three clusters:

  • One high-performance Cortex-X5 core running at 3.63 GHz.
  • Three Cortex-X4 cores at 2.80 GHz for extra power.
  • Four Cortex-A725 cores at 2.10 GHz for everyday tasks.

Comparison with competitors

At first glance, the Dimensity 9400’s 3.63 GHz peak speed seems insufficient compared to its competitors. Rumors about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 indicate a clock speed of 4.32 GHz, and Apple’s A18 series allegedly reaches 4.04 GHz.

However, if we look at previous leaks, it is still claimed that the chipset offers 30% performance improvement, 35% better energy efficiency, and a whopping 40% boost in AI performance. Is this enough of an improvement to beat or even the odds with competitors Qualcomm and Apple? We have to wait to see.

We don’t have long to wait, as the first phone with Dimension 9400 is expected to hit the market in early October. Rumor has it that the Vivo X200 series will be the first. It will probably be followed by the Oppo Find X8 line, which also uses the same chip.
