LG Electronics unveiled its vision of the future at IFA 2024, showcasing a full range of AI home solutions for all needs and lifestyles under the slogan “Experience, Home with Gentle Intelligence.”
AI Home Gate
The centerpiece of LG’s “gentle intelligence home” is ThinQ ON, an advanced AI home hub designed to provide comfort and convenience according to individual preferences. It seamlessly integrates with LG’s latest AI devices to form the foundation of the LG AI Home Solution.
This system is driven by “gentle intelligence,” LG’s empathetic and caring AI technology. Over time, the AI Home Solution gains more information about users’ habits, preferences, and behaviors and creates a personalized spatial experience, providing unparalleled value to customers and making their daily lives easier.
The first thing visitors to LG’s booth at IFA 2024 saw was the AI Home Gate, an immersive LED media wall that visually demonstrated how LG’s artificial intelligence is being used in the smart home to enhance customers’ lifestyles.
After passing through the AI Home Gate, visitors were able to experience LG’s sophisticated generative AI technology using the ThinQ ON hub. It understands natural language, allowing users to control a wide range of home appliances, IoT devices, and services using spoken voice commands. The LG Smart Hub delivers a truly personalized home lifestyle by controlling everything from home-related services to helping children get a good night’s sleep.
Intelligently personalized home lifestyle with AI
The “Second Youth Home” illustrated LG’s commitment to improving the lives of seniors by making their household chores easier and diversifying their leisure activities. This space, equipped with ThinQ ON, demonstrated how voice recognition and easy coordination of home appliances simplify home management, such as automatically setting the dryer to the “Sportswear” mode after the washing machine finishes washing. The smart hub can also provide voice notifications to keep users informed about what’s going on, relieve stress by offering tips for tasks like ordering a taxi, and estimate travel times to selected destinations.
In the Gentle Home area, the focus was on AI solutions designed to help families with care, especially for children and pets. An automatic home hub that manages AI devices and IoT sensors adapts device settings and environmental conditions to the needs of children. For example, it can activate a sleep mode at night, dimming the lights and adding a starlight effect to help them fall asleep. The hub also supports learning by using generative artificial intelligence to create stories based on children’s drawings.
To make pet care easier, LG’s AI Home Solution system controls connected devices to keep the air fresh and floors clean. Air quality sensors intelligently control the LG PuriCare Alpha Pet Double purifier, and temperature and humidity sensors control the DUALCOOL air conditioner, automatically adjusting the mode and airflow according to the prevailing conditions. The robot vacuum cleaner independently cleans the floor after pets leave the room, creating a more pleasant living space. In addition, new household appliances designed specifically for cats (and their owners) were presented in the Gentle Home area. The innovative LG AeroCat combines a bed and an air purifier, providing pets with a comfortable rest and their owners with a fresher atmosphere.
In the Cozy Home zone, ThinQ ON was central to creating a more convenient culinary experience. It interacted with visitors and provided them with personalized recipe recommendations as well as nutritional analysis. Guests could also enjoy live cooking classes, such as the AI Talking Cooking Show, taste delicious dishes prepared with LG ovens with artificial intelligence and built-in cameras, and see how the InstaView refrigerator with MoodUP complements the atmosphere.
The next area is the Smart Green Home, an automated home with high-efficiency appliances, including the advanced Therma V™ R290 Monobloc air-to-water heat pump and state-of-the-art HVAC system. LG’s artificial intelligence optimizes energy use in the home in real time, adjusting the settings and schedules of appliances to suit the user’s lifestyle and daily routine, as well as taking into account fluctuations in electricity tariffs. ThinQ ON also helps reduce energy costs by intelligently managing the power consumption of all connected devices.
Upgrade your home ecosystem with AI
The LG Gentle Intelligence zone demonstrated the scalability of this system, which is based on ThinQ ON. Leveraging LG’s proprietary generative artificial intelligence technology and advanced security solutions, ThinQ ON acts as a central hub for a variety of IoT ecosystems enhanced by a range of LG sensors and devices. These include motion, light, temperature, and humidity sensors, as well as smart buttons that provide real-time spatial information for personalized AI-driven home services.
The area also highlighted how LG’s open AI ecosystem integrates third-party services to enrich the customer experience and demonstrated the versatility of IoT sensors that can connect even non-AI appliances to the smart home. The exhibition emphasized the scalability of LG’s AI solutions, giving visitors a realistic view of the smart and adaptive living environment that LG is creating.
In addition, the LG Gentle Intelligence zone illustrated how ThinQ ON serves as the central hub of the home, working in perfect harmony with ThinQ UP and the ThinQ app, as well as a wide range of services and solutions. This creates an exceptionally personalized experience and contributes to the continuous development of the home ecosystem with artificial intelligence. The AI at the Core area highlighted LG’s advanced AI Core-Tech innovations, including AI DD and AI DUAL Inverter. The integration of LG’s latest smart solutions with industry-leading core technologies delivers more precise control, improved energy efficiency, and increased personalization.
“Our ‘gentle intelligence home’ solutions on display at IFA 2024 will enable customers to experience the ease of a labor-free home where they can enjoy a life free from routine household chores,” said Lee Jae-chul, President of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution, “We will continue to lead the way in the era of home AI with our ‘gentle intelligence’ solutions and state-of-the-art core technologies.”
