Lenovo unveils devices, concepts, and AI solutions at MWC 2024

Today at MWC 2024, Lenovo presented its latest portfolio of specialized devices, software, and infrastructure solutions based on AI, and demonstrated two prototype devices that challenge traditional PC and smartphone form factors. In addition, the company revealed the future of hybrid AI, which will be used in multi-devices, software, and services for greater personalization, collaboration, and efficiency.

“The suite of Lenovo AI-optimized devices, infrastructure, solutions, and services on display at MWC provides a broader view of our vision of ‘AI for all,'” said Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang, “Lenovo’s AI technologies benefit organizations of all sizes, driving intelligent transformation across all industries while strengthening our commitment to sustainability.”

Rethinking the boundaries with a futuristic concept

Lenovo has introduced the latest innovative concept – a transparent laptop

Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Project Crystal Laptop. The device transforms the way you interact and create with its 17.3-inch transparent Micro-LED display. The transparent keyboard area, bezel-less screen and floating touchpad enhance the overall user experience and create a sense of high-tech simplicity.

The advantage of this laptop is the smart integration of virtual and real. The transparent screen opens up new opportunities for collaboration and increases efficiency thanks to Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC).

The AI-powered content creation technology allows users to interact with physical objects and overlay digital information to create unique content, while transparency ensures it can be easily integrated into the environment. Users can easily switch between the keyboard and the stylus-enabled drawing board, taking their creative efficiency to new levels. Artificial intelligence combined with transparent displays opens up new ways of interacting with data and applications, providing opportunities for the development of new features and form factors. The concept demonstrates the futuristic perspective of AI-powered computers, combining digital and physical environments that can enhance the user experience in ways that were previously hard to imagine.

Continuing the dynamics of Tech World 2023, Lenovo and Motorola also demonstrated the concept of an adaptive smartphone display that can bend and take on different shapes depending on the needs of users. This idea is based on mechanical innovations in Lenovo’s transforming devices and deployment concepts. Lenovo and Motorola are emphasizing new concepts of generative artificial intelligence that will expand the ability to customize devices to provide users with a unique experience.

A new generation of laptops for business with AI

Lenovo has introduced the latest generation of business laptops – ThinkPad T14 Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. Intel Core Ultra processors with vPro technology, which power some of the new products, and Windows 11 offer an optimal ecosystem of AI-powered hardware and software solutions to deliver greater security, energy efficiency, and a new experience. With an ever-increasing selection of software applications, with the special benefit of AI acceleration support, users can enjoy new and improved capabilities across a wide range of usability and productivity.

The AI computing revolution has already begun, and Lenovo is committed to transforming its PCs and smart devices to deliver personalized solutions. Lenovo’s new laptops are among the first to incorporate AI technology, providing users with a fully personalized PC experience that helps optimize workflows and increase productivity. No matter the type of task – collaborating with colleagues, meeting with clients, analyzing data, or creating content – the new ThinkPad and ThinkBook laptops can accelerate work with the AI-powered software tools users need to maximize creativity and efficiency.

Smart Connect – a software solution for work through a unified ecosystem

Lenovo and Motorola have jointly launched Smart Connect, a software solution that unifies digital ecosystems to create a seamless multi-device experience. Smart Connect unlocks synergies between devices to maximize productivity by combining device capabilities and data management. With Smart Connect, users can switch tasks between PC, phone, and tablet, enjoy seamless and secure file sharing, access mobile apps on PC, and easily manage phone notifications.

Whether the user is working, creating, playing on a PC, communicating and consuming content on a smartphone, or taking a tablet on the go, switching from device to device and sharing content across ecosystems is now possible with just one touch. With Smart Connect, users can watch a movie on a tablet and then transfer it to a PC to continue watching it, listen to a podcast on a smartphone and finish it on a laptop at home, work on a document on a laptop and edit it on a smartphone, and even start a presentation on a desktop and make it more portable by transferring it to a tablet. Users can also easily bring everything displayed on their phones to the big screen, such as easily transferring games, movies, shows, and apps from their phone to their TV to have more room to work and play.

Scaling artificial intelligence applications

Lenovo has announced a new generation of integrated Edge AI Solutions for Telco that help enterprises leverage massive amounts of data to create new artificial intelligence applications while reducing energy consumption. These innovations are part of Lenovo’s extensive portfolio of hybrid AI solutions designed to simplify the path to intelligent transformation across all industries, and attract new customers to work with industry leaders like Telefonica to unlock the power of AI wherever data is created, delivering it to businesses in real time.

As the telecommunications industry continues to evolve rapidly to enable 5G rollouts and an AI-driven future, innovations in IT networks, cloud infrastructure, and edge computing are critical to connecting the modern digital economy.

Edge computing allows companies to analyze data in real time, enabling them to obtain useful information for more efficient operations and services faster.

To support the huge amount of computing moving to the edge, Lenovo is showcasing a powerful lineup of new integrated solutions for the telecommunications sector at MWC in Barcelona, leveraging artificial intelligence technologies developed by Lenovo’s ecosystem of partners.

Lenovo is also expanding its partnership with iFixit to provide IT managers with the ability to quickly fix and repair devices, extending the life of their equipment. Thanks to the insights of the iFixit Solutions team, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 laptops have been designed to be more repair-friendly. Not only was it possible to expand the list of replaceable CRU parts, including a battery with a wireless connector and a fully detachable DIMM design, replace the SSD and WWAN, but also add visual indicators to facilitate repairs. With the support of the iFixit team, Lenovo has created new repair guides that include video instructions for all CRU parts and also simplify the ordering of these parts. This extends the product lifecycle, reduces e-waste, and offers economic benefits to businesses and individuals. As a result of these improvements, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 have earned a preliminary iFixit repairability rating of 9.3 out of 10.
