Alleged internal schematics, described as ‘X-ray images,’ for the upcoming iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e models have surfaced online, offering a glimpse into their design and internal component arrangements. Codenamed Taycan (V67 K) and Nevera (V69) respectively, the devices appear to share significant internal layout similarities, suggesting a commonality in components and potentially even chassis stamping for manufacturing efficiency.

Manufacturing Synergies and Shared Components

The leaked images indicate an almost identical placement for the logic board, battery, and MagSafe wireless charging coil in both the iPhone 18 and 18e. This level of unification points to Apple’s strategy to reduce production costs by utilizing shared tooling for the body shells of these two models.

Camera System: Evolution or Compromise?

In terms of camera hardware, the standard iPhone 18 model appears to feature a more compact rear dual-camera module compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 17. Sensor resolutions are expected to remain unchanged. The iPhone 18e, however, is anticipated to house a single wide-angle lens, occupying the space where the ultra-wide camera would typically be found on the standard model. A diaphragm designated for a second sensor will likely be replaced by a plastic cap.

Battery Capacity Sees a Significant Increase

One of the most notable upgrades is the battery capacity. Both the iPhone 18 and 18e are slated to come equipped with a 4430 mAh battery. This represents a substantial increase over the iPhone 17’s 3671 mAh (a jump of approximately 20%) and the iPhone 17e’s 4005 mAh (around a 10% increase). The reduction in the SIM card slot size, coupled with an optimized design for the lower speaker and linear vibration motor, has freed up internal space to accommodate these larger batteries.

Other Features and Potential Innovations

Both devices are reported to retain the Dynamic Island. The use of batteries with steel casings is also mentioned. There’s speculation that the iPhone 18e might incorporate a dedicated camera control button, similar to what is rumored for the iPhone 18. Apple may also differentiate the models by omitting the U2 ultra-wideband chip from the iPhone 18e’s logic board, despite the identical internal layout.

Display: Will ProMotion Arrive?

The shared chassis design also fuels speculation that the iPhone 18e could feature a display panel identical to the iPhone 18, potentially including support for ProMotion technology with its high refresh rate. However, these assumptions currently lack definitive confirmation.

While leaks and schematics often precede official announcements, it’s important to remember that final specifications may differ from these early reports.
