Apple’s latest iPad mini, the iPad mini 8, has revealed some of its specifications due to European Union regulatory requirements. The new model sports a 4900mAh battery, a slight reduction from its predecessor’s 5034mAh capacity.

Battery and Performance

The iPad mini 8’s battery is rated at 18.9Wh, down from the previous generation’s 18.9Wh. Despite this minor decrease in battery size, Apple estimates the same battery life for both generations. This is attributed to the enhanced power efficiency of the new A20 Pro chip, which compensates for the reduced battery capacity.

Design and Display

The updated iPad mini boasts an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. It also features Acoustic Display technology for immersive stereo sound and support for the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. A significant design improvement sees the new model being 15% thinner and lighter than the previous iteration.

Availability and Pricing

Pre-orders for the iPad mini 8 have already begun, with the official launch scheduled for Friday, November 6th. In China, the device starts at 5499 Yuan, with potential government subsidies bringing the price down to as low as 4999 Yuan.

Related Developments

Recent reports have also shed light on other aspects of the new iPad mini:

  • The iPad mini with the A20 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM has appeared in Geekbench 7 benchmarks.
  • Apple executives have addressed questions regarding the iPad mini 8’s 60Hz screen refresh rate.
  • Special offers, including educational discounts and government subsidies, have made the iPad mini with A20 Pro available for as low as 4599 Yuan after a 900 Yuan reduction.

Apple recently held a special event that also introduced its first Mac with a touchscreen.
