Insight Partners confirms January cyberattack

American venture capital firm Insight Partners has confirmed that hackers breached its systems in January.

In a statement, Insight Partners said that on January 16 it discovered that an “unauthorized third party” had gained access to “certain Insight information systems through a sophisticated social engineering attack.” The company did not specify what kind of social engineering attack it was.

“As soon as this incident was discovered, we quickly took action to localize it, remediate the consequences and launch an investigation within hours,” the statement said.

The company, which has more than $90 billion in assets under management and has invested in various cybersecurity companies, including Armis and Wiz, says it has reported the incident to stakeholders.

Insight Partners did not confirm the nature of the incident or say whether data was stolen from its systems. However, the company says it encourages its partners to use “enhanced security protocols regardless of whether shared data has been compromised,” suggesting that data may have been accessed.

Insight said in a statement that it does not expect “any additional disruption” to its operations.
