Huawei has just unveiled the MatePad Pro 12.2, its latest flagship tablet designed specifically for professional creators. The tablet features a stunning dual-layer OLED display and comes with the latest version of Huawei’s Tianshenghuihua digital drawing app. Let’s dive into the details.
Specifications of Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2
The MatePad Pro 12.2 emphasizes portability, weighing just 508 grams, making it the lightest 12-inch tablet on the market, according to Huawei. Such a lightweight design is achieved thanks to an ultra-thin 0.5 mm thick aviation-grade fiberglass back panel finished in a distinctive “golden silk” finish.
The highlight of the MatePad Pro 12.2 is undoubtedly its display. Huawei claims that it is the most advanced one they have ever created and features a dual-layer OLED panel with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and a resolution of 2.8K. Huawei claims that the dual-layer or tandem display triples the lifespan of OLED panels and offers a 33% improvement in energy efficiency.
The screen also includes “flash point elimination technology” to reduce flicker and improve visibility in bright conditions. Other display features include a 144Hz refresh rate, wide P3 color gamut, and a 3:2 aspect ratio.
Huawei has kept silent on the tablet’s chipset and battery details. But it is expected to be equipped with the new Huawei Kirin 9010W processor and a 10,000 mAh battery with 100W fast charging support.
The camera setup includes an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a dual-lens rear system with a 13-megapixel primary sensor. For sound reproduction, the tablet is equipped with eight speakers designed for both high and low frequencies.
The MatePad Pro 12.2 also supports the new Huawei Star Leap Keyboard, which has a built-in charging slot for the M-Pencil stylus. This eliminates the need for separate charging and provides convenient storage. The magnetic smart axis design makes it easy to open and close the keyboard with one hand, simulating laptop use.
Additionally, the Tianshenghuihua app has been updated to enhance digital creativity. New high-quality brushes inspired by traditional Chinese ink painting aim to offer a more realistic artistic experience. The app introduces innovative canvases such as “golden silk” and “rice paper” and also includes an AI-powered portrait painting practice for beginners.
In August, Tianshenghuihua will receive an upgrade to Fangtian Painting Engine 2.0, which includes professional rendering effects, faster synthesis speeds, and support for 8K canvases. The editing tools will also get an update, including magic wand selection and layer positioning.
