Huawei is set to redefine mobile connectivity with a new feature called ‘Shared Network’ (拼好网), slated to debut on its upcoming Mate 90 smartphone lineup. This innovative technology allows multiple Huawei devices to pool their network resources, significantly improving connection stability and reliability.
How Shared Network Works
Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, personally unveiled the new development. He likened the ‘Shared Network’ functionality to a system of shared water resources. With a simple tap, several Huawei devices can combine their network capabilities and distribute them as needed. This means a device experiencing a weak signal or lacking access to a particular network can seamlessly ‘borrow’ bandwidth from nearby Huawei devices.
Real-World Testing and Results
To demonstrate the effectiveness of ‘Shared Network,’ Huawei engineers conducted a compelling experiment on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway. Three Huawei devices, each connected to a different mobile operator, were used. Upon activating the feature, video call quality saw a dramatic improvement, with disruptions and delays reduced by an impressive 90%.
This level of improvement is particularly significant given the notorious challenges of maintaining stable mobile connections at high speeds, especially during train journeys. A 90% reduction in issues suggests users can expect uninterrupted video calls, streaming, and other online activities even in demanding environments.
Activation and Configuration
The ‘Shared Network’ feature is integrated directly into Huawei’s device operating system. To enable it, users can navigate to Settings, select Multi-device collaboration, then Communication sharing, and finally Network sharing.
According to accompanying materials, the feature supports pooling network resources from up to four devices simultaneously, effectively creating a more robust and unified connection.
Future Compatibility and Updates
Yu Chengdong also announced that future updates, specifically with HarmonyOS 7, will extend ‘Shared Network’ compatibility to older Huawei smartphone models. This commitment underscores Huawei’s strategy to make its innovations accessible to a broader user base, rather than confining them to the latest releases.
Key benefits of ‘Shared Network’:
- Significant reduction in video call delays and interruptions (up to 90% on high-speed trains).
- Ability to combine network resources from up to 4 devices.
- Simple activation through smartphone settings.
- Planned expansion of compatibility to older models with HarmonyOS 7.
The Huawei Mate 90 series, alongside a full spectrum of new products, is expected to launch soon. The ‘Shared Network’ feature is poised to be a standout addition, promising users a more stable and dependable mobile internet experience.
