Apple has announced that its much-anticipated HomePod home theater surround sound feature will be exclusive to the latest Apple TV 4K model. This means that older Apple TV models will not be able to take advantage of this new immersive audio experience.
HomePod Surround Sound Requirements
To set up the HomePod home theater surround sound, users will need at least four HomePod mini speakers or two second-generation HomePod speakers. These speakers must be configured in front and rear pairs. Additionally, the setup requires an Apple TV 4K (fourth generation) running the latest operating system.
Introducing the New HomePod mini
Alongside the announcement regarding the surround sound feature, Apple has also updated its lineup of smart home products. The new HomePod mini, priced at 1099 yuan in China, is now available in five different colors. This compact yet powerful speaker boasts a full-range driver and dual passive radiators, delivering deep bass and crisp highs.
The HomePod mini supports stereo pairing for an enhanced listening experience. It also features sound recognition capabilities and built-in temperature and humidity sensors, adding smart home functionality beyond just audio playback. For seamless connectivity, the new model comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6E. Overseas, the HomePod mini will support Apple’s Siri AI features. Each speaker includes a 20W power adapter.
